Netherlands: Children?s shoes too short

The Austrian Research team Children?s feet ? Children?s shoes conducted Netherlands first study on the sizing of children?s shoes. In cooperation with the dutch company Meetmaatje (www.meetmaatje.nl), the team measured the feet of 108 children and the inside lengths of the shoes. More than half of the kids were wearing shoes that were too short in length. 94% of the children?s shoes were misleadingly labeled. For example, a shoe labeled 30 may actually be only a size 29 in length. 6 pairs were even 3 sizes too short!
The research team recommends that parents always measure both their child?s feet and the inside length of the shoes. For a good fit, children?s shoes need at least 12 mm (about ? inch) of extra length at the toe.
