International conference in Salzburg: The South African ISO Committee meets with the Austrian research team ?Children?s Feet ? Children?s Shoes?

In 2003, the Austrian research team ?Children?s Feet ? Children?s Shoes? was worldwide the first to prove that wearing shoes that are too short causes damage to children?s feet. One of the main reasons that children wear poorly-fitting shoes is that there is no standardised norm for shoe sizes for shoe manufacturers to conform to. This problem was demonstrated very clearly by the results of the Austrian studies: Investigations comparing labelled shoe size with inside length showed that only 1-3% of children?s shoes were labelled with the correct size!
